SYLLABUS
The B.Sc. (Hons.) Biotechnology is a three-year duration course and the curriculum has a total of four components.
- Core courses (CC): There are 14 core courses taught in three years that every candidate has to pass. The names of the subjects are given in table 1. Each subject carries equal marks and the exam is divided into three sections: theory, practical, and internal assignment. The internal assignment is based on MCQ-based examination, presentation, assignments, and seminars.
- Elective courses: are chosen from a pool of courses and are very specific/ advanced/ supportive to the discipline and also provide exposure to some other discipline or nurture the candidate’s proficiency /skill. The elective courses include
Generic Elective (GE) Courses: A total of 4 courses are offered under this discipline and are studied by students in the first two years of the course. These courses are interdisciplinary in nature.
Discipline Specific Elective(DSE) courses : It also contains 4 courses that are studied by students in 3rd year of the courses. These courses are discipline related and or interdisciplinary in nature.
- Ability Enhancement Compulsory Courses (AECC): these are of two types; Ability Enhancement Compulsory Courses(AECC) and Skill Enhancement courses (SEC).
The AECC courses are mandatory courses based upon the content that leads to knowledge enhancement; 1 Environment Science and 2. English/Hindi/MI- All these are mandatory courses for obtaining a B.Sc. (Honours) degree in the concerned subject.
The SEC courses are valuable-based and or skill based and are aimed at providing hands- on-training, competencies, skill etc. A minimum of two such courses (2SEC in 2nd Year) for obtaining the an Honours degree are selected amongst the courses designed to provide value-based and/or skill-based knowledge.
- Practical (PR) component: It has been included in every core and discipline/ generic specific elective paper. The list of practicals to be conducted by the candidates has been provided alongside each of such courses.
