About
Since its establishment in 1952, the department of English at GC Bilaspur is committed to foster a learning environment that helps students develop their communicative competence, creative potential and critical thinking. It adopted different pedagogical approaches over time for the linguistic and cognitive awareness of changing socio-political values, morals and priorities. To make higher education more accessible to native students, MA English Programme was introduced in 2014. The programme offers a specialized curriculum and facilitates a detailed study of acknowledged literature in various genres. At present, there are 5 teachers in the department with extensive teaching experience and understanding of the local culture that make them work effectively with the native students. The department extends its commitment by using interdisciplinary approach to teach students of various streams such as Science, Commerce and Arts. It offers various courses such as Soft Skills, Business Communication, Creative Writing, Academic Writing, Translation Studies etc at UG level; and History of English Literature, Criticism, Literary Theory, World Fiction etc at PG level.

The department of English aspires to create an educational environment that can inculcate communicative competence and literary scholarship to help students emerge as responsible citizens.
